Within NHS Providers
NHS Providers has committed to becoming an anti-racist organisation. This has been a dedicated area of focus for us since the summer of 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, and the renewed sense of injustice that followed, combined with the racial disparities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. These events have put race equality on the agenda of NHS boards in a way it has never been before. They have also prompted us to reflect on how racism affects us as an organisation, our staff and our members, and to consider what improvement we need to make and how we can better lead by example.
Below is a press release, blog and a thought leadership piece by outgoing Chief Executive Chris Hopson, on why urgent action is needed to tackle racial health inequalities.
Why join NHS Providers?
The thing we’re most proud of at NHS Providers is our team. We are immensely fortunate to have an energetic, passionate, supportive, informed, fun and inspiring group of colleagues. Find out what some of them enjoy about their role and the organisation, and read about the team you could be joining.
“NHS Providers is working to become an actively anti racist organisation. The internal programme, including the development of a mission statement and action plan with appropriate scrutiny and accountability reflect their commitment to translate words into action. I am pleased to see the organisation is developing a programme of support for members in this crucial area. The recent report Race 2.0 – Time for real change provided a valuable platform for this work, and they have also provided helpful public commentary, webinars and podcasts.”
I really enjoy my role in workforce policy because the work is high-impact, I feel invested in, and my colleagues are wonderful. The workforce portfolio has allowed me to deep-dive into my interests, retaining previous stakeholder relationships whilst developing lots of new ones, and seeing my work in national publications. It’s exciting to be part of an organisation which is growing in both numbers and impact, and great that the leadership team have spent time thinking about staff development and progression as this happens. The people here are lovely too which is the icing on the cake!
Working within our fantastic analysis team, I love looking at a wide range of data that feeds into diverse and exciting work pieces across the organisation. It’s an exciting role that also gives me the opportunity to work with many policy colleagues, helping shape up the crucial work they do with robust evidence, and learning new things along the way! It is also a great pleasure to work other directorates, particularly the comms team – I love seeing the work we do being shared and used by our members and the public.
I find working at NHS Providers fast paced and exciting. The organisation is very supportive of its people, both professionally and personally, and I have definitely found this to be true within my own line management support and my team members. It’s great to be a part of an organisation that regularly updates staff about what’s going on within the industry so that everyone across the board feels as though they are in the loop, and we can work collectively to continue to make an impact. Some exciting aspects of the organisation is the continuing growth of the company and the development opportunities available for staff. You can really sense the passion that colleagues have towards the work they do here which makes NHS Providers a motivating place to work.
IWorking at NHS Providers is brilliant. It’s fast paced and interesting, and no two days are ever the same, particularly in the media team. It’s great being in an organisation that leads the news agenda so frequently. We have a superb and highly talented team and I’m constantly learning something new.
I joined NHS Providers’ development and engagement team in early 2021 and since then each day has been inspiring, motivating and challenging, which has helped me develop professionally in different areas. I’m part of an amazing team where I’ve had the opportunity to work with some influential people in developing a programme of network events that make an impact. One of the best parts of my job is to be able to work with people from all levels to drive change. NHS Providers truly embraces its diverse workforce, providing a flexible and supportive environment for people – it’s inspiring to work for a forward-looking growing organisation.
As an NHS manager, working in the service for over 30 years, I attended many events hosted by NHS Providers and was always impressed by the organisation. This has been reinforced since working for them, where my experience has been valued , and there is a constant relentless focus on supporting the needs of our member trusts. It has created a welcoming environment with a strong emphasis on team working and despite rapid expansion in the last couple of years has retained a friendly feel and genuine concern for staff welfare.
